Hello Miss Marie‘s Questions
What do you do besides blogging? Job/Student?
This is a great question. Up until a couple years ago, I was pursuing my degree in Graphic Design. Recently, my health has gotten a bit worse. It’s been kind of cycle of surgery and physical therapy. I’ve had three surgeries since 2015 and we’re waiting to hear if I’ll need to have one on my ankle. So I guess I can say I blog full-time?
What blog post are you most proud of and why?
I think, mE Project| "Nana The Pot’s Burning!" and #WhatTheHealth| The Illusion Of Social Media. Both of these posts were more on the personal side and I shared a lot more of myself than I usually do. In some ways, I was slightly hesitant about posting them because of it. But the outpouring of support made it worth it.
What is your biggest dream?
Simply put, to be happy. I don’t really care what I end up doing with my life as long as I’m happy doing it.
What is your favorite book or movie?
I was so sure I was going to become an English Major in high school so I took a lot of advanced classes. In my AP Lit class, we had to read a lot of books and it exposed me to, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. It’s the retelling of Hamlet from his friend’s point of view. Other than that, I have a full volume of Edgar Allan Poe’s work.
Where/When do you like to work on your blog?
At home. I finally got my desk set up, but if I’m not there I’ll crash on the sectional in the living room and get comfortable.
What is the most embarrassing moment you are willing to admit to?
When I was in high school, I borrowed my sister’s white sweater without telling her. It had been raining all day at school and as I was walking to the bus, I fell and slipped in the mud. I fell backward and got mud all over it. Not only did she find out about it, but we had to throw away the sweater because the mud ruined it.
What is your favorite part of blogging?
I would say seeing how people respond to what you make and create. Blogging is hard work but reading positive comments makes it worth it.
Have you told your friends/family about your blog? if no, why not?
Yes. I was really hesitant at first to see what they would say but I think I was making it a bigger issue than what it was. They know that I’ve always loved writing so it wasn’t a big deal at all. Some I told outright, others I just followed from my blog’s social media lol.
What are your favorite things to write about?
Lately, the mE Project has been my favorite. It’s such a versatile project and I love writing posts to help motivate others. Reviews are fun too, I love trying new products.
How do you motivate yourself to keep posting blogs?
I think it helps that I genuinely enjoy doing it. But I try to pace myself anyways so I don’t stretch myself too thin. I post four times during the week and I make sure that those days are spread out. That way I have a break between blogging, physical therapy, and doctor appointments.
If you were to have ONE super power what would it be?
Teleportation would be nice. Traveling during this holiday season is just horrible. Can you imagine being anywhere in the world in just a blink of the eye? How cool would that be?!
Something So True’s Questions
What’s makes you, YOU. How do you stand out from everyone else?? *Self Love Moment*
I would say my sense of humor and positive spirit. My mother is always saying that I have a great sense of humor despite all that I’ve gone through. And I think that’s so important. Everyone goes through trials and bad situations but dwelling on them doesn’t make it better. I’d rather be a happy person than be miserable.
If you could change anything by the power of blogging what would it be and why?
There are so many things. I think the stigmas surrounding health and mental health are big ones. Yesterday, as we were waiting for them to get me for my MRI, one woman was so shocked to find out how sick I was. And she said the famous phrase, “But you don’t look sick.” I kind of want to do a blog post about this.
What’s your favorite restaurant dish you’ve eaten this year?
This is a hard one. Back in February, we went to go visit my sister in Maryland. There is an Italian restaurant close to where she lives that makes the best crab cakes.
What made you decide that blogging was for you?
I’ve tried blogging before when I was in high school but I never took it seriously. But I’ve always loved writing since I was little it has been the best way that I can express myself. When I started blogging in September, I realized that I need to make some changes in my life. Blogging just seemed like the right step to document the journey.
What’s your funniest holiday/ traveling story? Tell me your destination & tale
In 2009, my mom and sister decided that they were going to drive me to the 2-week writing program with Teen Ink. You can read a little bit more about it here, Teen Ink| Personal Experience & Saying Goodbye. My mom got a map from AAA and she was adamant that she was going to be the map reader. Well, of course, she ended up reading the map wrong. On the way to New York, we took a wrong turn and found ourselves in Allentown, PA.
Allentown, PA is not the safest place to get lost at night. My mom starts freaking out but as we’re driving we find a police car. Us country ladies from West Virgina are thinking, “Oh great, we’re saved! He’ll help us.” My mom followed this cop car for blocks and he never paid us any attention. We were going through red lights and everything trying to keep up with this cop. He never looked up. And during the whole time, we kept passing this gas station with 20 guys outside. Each time we passed they would point at the car and laugh.
We finally pulled over to the culdesac with a bunch of houses. My mom calls 911 and explains what’s going on. By this time it’s after 1:00 am in the morning and I’m supposed to be at Juilliard at 8:00 am. The 911 operator laughed a bit but explained that we had made a wrong turn and gave us directions to get to the hotel we were staying at in New Jersey.
Three Facts About Me
- I’m the youngest out of three. We’re actually several years apart. My brother is 41 and my sister is 34.
- For a long time, I didn’t like the color purple. I once had a purple bedroom and my mom went all out with the decor. I mean everything was purple. It looked like Barney had threw up in my room. I’m finally getting over my hatred for the color.
- If you try to feed me peas or Brussel sprouts then I know we’re not friends.
