I have this great talent of injuring myself in the weirdest ways. People always ask me, “Erika how did you do that?!” But the stories I have for my injuries are never that interesting, sometimes it’s just downright dumb. When my knee finally gave out, I was getting out of bed, nothing crazy. I will have to tell that story after this one because that one is quite complicated. Today, I’ll be telling the story of how my bathtub beat me up twice.
We have to take it back to the week of October 5th, 2017. Thinking back on that week, I can definitely give it the label of the most emotional week that I’ve had this year. I’m not an emotional person, but I cried so much in such a short span of time. I’m going to delete that week from my memory after this post.
That Thursday, I had just finished up another round of crying and I was trying to get out of the shower. I feel that our tub is a bit deep and that’s coming from a tall person. I had one foot on the floor and I was in the process of stepping completely out of the shower when… TIMBER!
What I looked like when I fell.
Next thing I knew, I was on the floor. Though I landed in an awkward way. I’m a gangly, long-limbed person. I’m 5’9 and if someone asked me, I think I’m probably 85% legs, I have a short torso. So when I fell, my right leg was completely on the floor. My left knee hit the floor, but my left ankle smacked down on the corner of the tub.
When this happened, I was concerned about my knee. I’ve had two surgeries on it and I don’t particularly feel like doing another. My ankle was sore but it wasn’t showing any other indication that something was wrong with it at that time. The next day, I was very sore but other than that, I was okay.

Friday and Saturday I noticed knot forming on my ankle. It had been getting tender to touch and applying weight down on my ankle was increasingly getting difficult. Yesterday, I guess my ankle thought, “Enough is enough!”
My poor ankle 🙁
Walking on my ankle was just about impossible and I was kind of afraid that is was broken. When we moved, I made the mistake of getting rid of my crutches. But at least I had the forethought to keep my cane because that’s what I have been using for support.
We went to Immediate Care yesterday to get it looked at. They did x-rays on it, and thankfully it’s not broken but I do have a severe sprain. I have to stay off of it for a week. This does work in my favor because now I have more time to write and get ahead. For some reason, they didn’t give me crutches at the hospital yesterday. But we called my doctor this morning and she’s going to order some for me. In the meantime, I’ll be resting and writing.
